Chapter Members to Vote on Bylaws Amendments in February

The IPMA Oregon chapter Board has reviewed the Chapter bylaws and noted a few areas that were missing. The highlights of the changes are as follows and are also marked as tracked changes in this downloadable PDF file. The changes:

1) If the chapter dissolves, any funds of the chapter would be sent to IPMA-HR national.

2) Add a conflict of interest clause.

3) Would allow voting on chapter matters to be conducted electronically.

4) Would allow the board to set dues as deemed appropriate for operating the chapter.

Per the bylaws any amendments must be presented to the membership 30 days in advance of a vote. Look for a subsequent notice in February for voting.

Training Schedule Announced

Greetings members and friends,

It is a new year for the IPMA-HR Oregon chapter!  Fall is upon us, school is in session, and it’s time for us all to dust off our learning hats.  This October we will be offering a great session on Understanding the Origins of Conflict, Communicating Expectations, and Managing Behavior.  Jill Goldsmith, Workplace Solutions Northwest, will deconstruct the six stages of unproductive conflict and define and explain productive communication to foster a culture of clear communication and accountability.  This will be a very informative and practical session for our members and for managers alike.  This is our first session for the 11-12 year and we hope to see a great turnout.  Mark your calendars for the morning of Friday, October, 14, and encourage others within your organization to attend.  Event details and registration are attached.

This year we will be offering a couple of half day sessions to cover more complex subjects.  Below, you will find the seminar lineup, brought to you by several returning board members and a few new board members:

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2011: Understanding the Origins of Conflict, Communicating Expectations, & Managing Behavior

NOVEMBER 10 – Building & Maintaining Relationships with Union in tough Economy

JANUARY 12 –Classification and Compensation

MARCH 8 –Strategic Planning and Strategic Business Partnerships

APRIL 12 – The Bermuda Triangle – ADA, FMLA, and Workers’ Compensation

JUNE 14 – 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Also, the board has been discussing methods to reach our members and potential members outside of the Portland-Metro area.  We will provide more information as we design that program.

I look forward to seeing you at the October event!

Sincerely,

Andrea Villagrana

Renew Your Chapter Membership for 2011

As the Oregon Chapter begins its annual program this week, it is time for members renew their membership in the chapter for 2011.  An updated membership form (along with the program list) has been posted on the Membership tab, and also in this new item.  We starting our membership campaign this year  as we have planned our training sessions for 2010-2011, and the Chapter Board can now concentrate its energy on activities required to put on a successful Western Region IPMA-HR Conference, to be held next April in Portland.  Members can help the chapter by renewing as soon as possible.

Please check the web site regularly

Just because there are no training sessions scheduled for the summer doesn’t mean IPMA-HR Oregon chapter members shouldn’t check the web site regularly. We’ll be continuing to keep the site up to date, with other news, agency recruitments for new jobs, etc. For example, the Jobs page was updated this morning to list an HR Manager job in Marion County.

We expect the site to be more frequently updated next year as the chapter will be hosting the Western Region annual spring conference in April in Portland. Look for updates on the conference soon.
