March 8 Seminar Postponed – to be Rescheduled

Chapter President Andrea Villigrana sent the following e-mail to Chapter members: “It has come to our attention that several other events have been scheduled for March 8, 2012, the date of the next IPMA-HR Oregon seminar.  We would like everyone to have the opportunity to attend HR: A Valued Partner in Succeeding Today, and will reschedule this training for a later date – most likely in May.  Please accept our apologies for the late notice.”

Please check our events page for the rescheduling.

Training Schedule Announced

Greetings members and friends,

It is a new year for the IPMA-HR Oregon chapter!  Fall is upon us, school is in session, and it’s time for us all to dust off our learning hats.  This October we will be offering a great session on Understanding the Origins of Conflict, Communicating Expectations, and Managing Behavior.  Jill Goldsmith, Workplace Solutions Northwest, will deconstruct the six stages of unproductive conflict and define and explain productive communication to foster a culture of clear communication and accountability.  This will be a very informative and practical session for our members and for managers alike.  This is our first session for the 11-12 year and we hope to see a great turnout.  Mark your calendars for the morning of Friday, October, 14, and encourage others within your organization to attend.  Event details and registration are attached.

This year we will be offering a couple of half day sessions to cover more complex subjects.  Below, you will find the seminar lineup, brought to you by several returning board members and a few new board members:

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2011: Understanding the Origins of Conflict, Communicating Expectations, & Managing Behavior

NOVEMBER 10 – Building & Maintaining Relationships with Union in tough Economy

JANUARY 12 –Classification and Compensation

MARCH 8 –Strategic Planning and Strategic Business Partnerships

APRIL 12 – The Bermuda Triangle – ADA, FMLA, and Workers’ Compensation

JUNE 14 – 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Also, the board has been discussing methods to reach our members and potential members outside of the Portland-Metro area.  We will provide more information as we design that program.

I look forward to seeing you at the October event!

Sincerely,

Andrea Villagrana
President, IPMA-HR Oregon Chapter

Effective Organizational Communication Presentation Materials

Does it seem that you’re hearing the general public complaining more about “government?” This change the public’s attitude increases the importance of effective organizational communications within local government agencies. Leadership needs to pay greater attention to the frequency, the content, and the method of communicating with agency employees more now than every before. Developing and honing some basic and proven communications tools, competencies, and processes will be required by all levels of the leadership team in order to meet the communication needs of the employees in this dynamic environment.

This was the topic of the chapter’s November 18 breakfast workshop, conducted by Chapter Board Member Rob Koch. For the benefit of those chapter members unable to attend, Rob has made his presentation (PowerPoint) available. The presentation may be downloaded using the link below.
