Chapter sponsors Risky Business Seminar November 21

Employment liability is one of the major exposures public entities face. As a pre-loss attorney for CIS, Tamara Jones has a front row seat viewing the incoming claims and exposures we face. Come hear the Risk/Liability trends from 2014 and hear what she recommends to look out for in 2015.  The chapter’s November 21 seminar will be from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Tualatin Police Department Training Room, 8650 SW Tualatin Road, Tualatin.  As usual, registration and breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m.

Our speaker has devoted her 17-year legal practice to representing the interests of management and employers in a wide variety of employment-law related issues and forums. During her years in private practice, Tamara first- or second-chaired 16 trials and arbitrations on behalf of employers, and defended employers against claims and complaints lodged by current and former employees with federal and state agencies, such as the EEOC, the Washington Human Rights Commission, and the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries.

Board Proposes Amended Bylaws

The Oregon chapter is completing the paperwork to register the chapter as a tax exempt organization under Federal IRS Rules. It is already registered as a non-profit public benefit corporation under the laws of the State of Oregon.

In completing this documentation, certain modifications were found to be necessary in the bylaws to meet the requirements of State law, IRS regulations and the chapter requirements for the international association.  The proposed amendments have been review by IPMA-HR staff. At a board meeting this morning, the Chapter Board acted to submit the proposed changes to the membership for approval.

Ballots on the proposed amendments will be sent to the members via e-mail shortly. Members are asked to return their ballots electronically by August 30.

A red-lined copy of the proposed amendments is available in PDF format.
