IPMA-HR Oregon Chapter
supporting excellence in public sector human resources
Join us on a detailed overview of interview best practices. In this seminar, Ben Mead-Harvey will discuss many aspects of the process.
Question design is the cornerstone of an effective interview. This session will spend significant time explaining how to create questions that are most likely to elicit meaningful information from your candidates.
We will also cover a wide array of topics related to the interview process: what to tell candidates prior to the interview, how to design rating systems, how to train panelists to rate effectively, how to make the best selection following interviews, how company culture impacts the hiring process, and misconceptions about creating effective interview processes.
At the top of the session, we will review the concept of bias, explain how it goes beyond protected classes, and describe how it leads us away from effective hiring decisions.
In addition to describing what best practices are for interview processes, we will spend time throughout the session explaining why these are the best practices and why other options fall short. This will help inspire you to make improvements to the processes at your organization. If you are already on board, these explanations will help “make the sell” to convince others in your organization.
